SpoonRiverNAVHDA.org is the online home of the NAVHDA Spoon River Chapter in Illinois. (NAVHDA is the acronym for the North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association.) The Spoon River Chapter membership is primarily drawn from throughout the South-Central counties of Illinois; such as Fulton, Peoria, Tazewell, McLean, Champaign, Mason, Logan, De Witt, Piatt, Cass, Sangamon, Christian, Macon, Morgan, and Menard Counties. The North American Versatile Hunting Dog Association is a nonprofit corporation whose purpose is to foster, promote, and improve the versatile hunting dog breeds in North America. (Versatile dogs are bred and trained to dependably hunt and point game, to retrieve on both land and water, and to track wounded game on both land and water.)

Meetings & General Information

The Spoon River NAVHDA Chapter held an informational meeting for the new year on February 7th 2009 at the Goose Pit in Banner. This was a time to plan the training year, to set a calendar and to discuss any upcoming tests. John Sondag worked on chapter by-laws that were approved at the meeting. Download The New Chapter Bylaws in pdf format. Click Here to download a membership form. Please fill out the form and return it with $35 for annual dues to Terry Postin. If you are not already an international member with NAVHDA, we encourage you to join also. Not only will you receive a great magazine – ‘The Versatile Hunting Dog’ – but you will also be covered by insurance while you are in the field on training and test days. You will only be covered by insurance if you are an international member. However, the insurance is a 2-pronged approach in that each chapter has to purchase the insurance and then submit a list of the membership to the international office. So your annual dues of $35 to Spoon River NAVHDA is needed by the chapter to help pay the almost $600 annual chapter insurance premium. We are also updating all of our contact information, so to keep everything up-to-date and ensure that you receive info on all upcoming events, please return the membership form with the dues.

Training Plans
Chapter members continue to discuss how training days should be structured.  The current approach is to have 30 minutes of structured training on a specific point of emphasis and then break out into groups for additonal training.  Contact Terry Postin by phone at 309/649-0112 with your suggestions. Gobblers Knob is our default meeting/training site. Alternative locations have been proposed for training on specific meeting days for this year, and any changes will be announced on our web site when confirmed.
