WHY:
The Handler Clinic is a tool developed by NAVHDA to educate aspiring judges, handlers and other NAVHDA members.  The intensive two-day weekend training, session is conducted by an official NAVHDA Handler Clinic Leader.  During the clinic, participants are familiarized with the NAVHDA system and philosophy of judging versatile hunting dogs by learning how to use judge work cards and scoring Natural Ability, Utility Preparatory, and Utility dogs.  The Handler Clinic is one of the requirements for becoming an “Approved Apprentice” in the NAVHDA Judge Development program. A clinic provides everyone involved with an opportunity to learn about versatile hunting dogs.  Members with their first pup see other dogs work and gain insight into what their new pup is doing and why.  A handler benefits by learning how NAVHDA evaluates versatile hunting dogs.  Even an experienced handler will learn something new during any clinic due to the diversity of the group and the depth of discussion.

WHAT:
Each participant will receive a current NAVHDA “Aims, Programs and Tests” rule book at the handler clinic.  If you currently have one, try to take the time to familiarize yourself with the contents. Bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, and bug spray.  Remember to wear blaze orange. The end of June in central Illinois is usually very warm (although there are days that surprise us).  Watch the weather and dress appropriately. Lunch/ additional water and soda will be available for a small fee. No host supper will be available Saturday evening following the clinic at a local restaurant in the Canton area.

The entire 2-day clinic is only $85.  Make check payable to Spoon River NAVHDA
